Underclassmen: Personalized Pre-College Planning Starting as Early as Eighth Grade

It's never too early to start: College By Design offers tailored consulting services to help foster a wonderful high school experience and transition to college. By getting to know each student and family early in the process, I build an individualized plan to help students find their passions, set goals, utilize their strengths, and take ownership of their high school years and the college selection/application process. What this package includes:

During Eighth – Tenth Grade:

  • Creation of an an academic and extracurricular action plan, setting in motion the steps to a successful and enjoyable high school experience

  • Assistance with course selection each year to ensure (i) college readiness, and (ii) that students will be well-rounded applicants meeting criteria for college acceptance

  • Introduction to new activities, summer programs, classes, and community service opportunities

  • Ability for teens to learn about majors, careers, and home in on their interests early in the process

  • Navigation of personality tests and career assessments enabling students to better understand their strengths/personality traits and how they impact study habits, group work, prospective college majors, aspirations, and goals

  • Help with applying for internships/summer programs

  • Creation of a buildable RESUME

  • Standardized test planning/strategy

  • College visit and research advising

  • Opportunity for assistance with high school papers/tutoring—separate fee

Junior Year:

  • Finding the best fit colleges to meet a student’s academic, social, extracurricular and financial needs

  • Development of an initial college list of 20-25 schools taking into account these needs

  • Access to College Planner Pro (CPP) for students and parents

  • Honing in on favorite activities, classes, and community service

  • Guidance through strategic college research for students and parents utilizing CPP

  • College visit advising—know what to do/ask while on campus and where/when to visit

  • Creation of an academic and extracurricular action plan for senior year

  • Standardized test planning/strategy

  • Demonstrated Interest—help colleges get to know you

  • Discussion of teacher recommendation letters

  • Help applying for internships/summer programs

  • Opportunity for assistance with high school papers—separate fee

Summer Before Twelfth Grade Through Graduation & Beyond

  • Narrowing of college list

  • COMPREHENSIVE ESSAY ASSISTANCE (my specialty)

  • Hands-on assistance with ALL COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

  • Personalized organization system to keep students on track

  • Monitoring of all deadlines/applications to limit family stress

  • Continued access to CPP for college list and research

  • One-on-one interview prep

  • Multiple workshops for students (plus on-location sessions for MN students - COVID-19 Pending)

  • Discussion of merit aid/extra applications when required

  • Help with scholarship essays

  • Consideration of athletic recruitment

  • Help submitting visual/performing arts supplements

  • Review of all acceptance choices, including how to handle waitlist decisions

  • Meeting during freshman year to discuss how things are going


Upperclassmen: Junior - Senior Year

The final two years of high school play a pivotal role in preparing students for college, and I strive to make this a fun and fluid time for the entire family. Package includes:

MINI Package: 10-Hours to be used as clients see fit
(Namely for rising/current seniors and grad school applicants)

  • Limited guidance on any of the above topics offered through my Comprehensive Packages

  • Great for students applying to post college scholarships like the Watson, Marshall, Rhodes, or Fulbright

  • Ability to purchase a second/third package or add hourly essay assistance and support after time-allotment


15-Hour Package: To be used as clients see fit

  • For High School Students: Essay assistance including brainstorming of topics, introduction to essay writing through a targeted three part workshop, guidance throughout the writing process, help managing deadlines, and organization through Dropbox of all essays/work. For students in need of essay assistance only, this package offers a reduced rate when purchasing in increments of 15-hours from my standard hourly rate

  • Great for students applying to Medical School/PhD, Masters Programs, and Law School

  • Ability to purchase a second package, or to switch to hourly essay assistance after time-allotment


Transfer Student Package: 10 or 15 Hour

Life evolves, and so does a student’s interests, personality, and goals. Sometimes students realize their current school does not meet their academic or social needs, or they find themselves longing to be in a new environment or location. Growth over the first year of college can transform a student in ways that necessitate transferring to find balance and be successful. Through tailored consulting services and step-by-step guidance, College By Design supports transfer students through every stage of the process.

  • For families in need of targeted guidance, clients can purchase assistance by the hour

  • For college students with limited needs, students can purchase essay assistance by the hour

  • For those in need of resume or cover letter assistance only, clients can purchase by the hour
